A day in the life of Chris Fox, Regional Trainer
6:10am: Out of the front door with dog in
tow, grab the blackberry and check messages as I walk across the
fields.
7am: Sit down to start the day with a breakfast of champions... well Bran Flakes any ways.
7:30am: Shower and ready to start the day.
8
am: Download
all exams, prepare learner materials and ensure all equipment and
tools needed for the day are packed into my bag ( it's important to
ensure all printer, scanner and blackberry leads are included -
remember the 4 P'S: preparation prevents poor performance!!!!!)
8:10am: Leave the house packed lunch in hand, programme the sat nav with the new site information and begin journey accompanied by Radio one.... and maybe a little go at the quiz to see if I can beat the presenters!!!.
9 - 11.30am: Arrive at the site and greet the learner. Here we take time to introduce ourselves, the company and the core principles of the learner journey they are going to be undertaking. We then ask to speak to their Manager to explain the same process and discuss how the training will benefit the site and the employee. At this point we need to establish that the site is safe and suitable to sustain the learner's journey, to do this the site receives a full health and safety screening.

Once this is complete we begin the sign up process for the Leisure Management qualification - we use the candidate's information to create an Eportfolio profile and work through the student hand book and learner skill scans with them. Through this process we can identify learning routes and involve our dedicated learning support team if required.
At this point we create an action plan of work for the learner to progress through and set a new appointment date. We then discuss the learning materials and support systems.
A final recap with the manager to discuss the sign up process.
12 - 2pm: Arrive at the second site, meet with learner and other staff members, begin session with the learner. Here I start marking through the work they have completed, sitting the keyskills exams and completing a gym practical observation. All evidence is mapped into the NVQ criteria on Eportfolio and documented.

At the end of the session we create a new action plan and review the session we have just completed using the % counter to highlight progress made by the learner. This action plan is signed by myself, the learner and their Manager to ensure everyone is supporting each other to achieve the common goal, which is to improve company productivity through enhancing employee skills and qualifications.
2:30 - 5pm: Arrive at third site. Meet
learner and review and mark completed work, observe them doing a
customer service observation and map the observation to the
criteria. At the end of the session we gather feedback from the
learner and their Manger, adding comments ourselves and reviewing
relevant Equality and Diversity topics to show the learner's
understanding and awareness. We then track the progress through the
% increase and create a new action plan.
6 - 6.30pm: Arrive home, upload exams to gain results, respond to all emails and calls, sync the machine to collect all information from the day.
7 - 8pm: Time to grab the lead and take the dog out for a walk, great to relax as you walk across the hills
8:15 - 9pm: Time to hit the gym
hard!!!
11pm: One final check of my Blackberry to see if anything has changed for tomorrow's schedule, then it's time to hit the hay to be ready for another day.
