Lord Sugar inspires youngsters
It has been announced this week that jobseekers living in the South of England are facing the toughest hunt to find work. Of the 20 areas in Britain where competition for jobs is the toughest, the London boroughs faired amongst the worst of the bunch.*
In line with this month’s first episode of Series 7 The Apprentice, national training provider, Lifetime urges young adults to follow in the footsteps of Lord Sugar and his apprentices to explore their options for ‘learning on the job’ – not only to gain an array of skills to make their CV shine, but also to make that all important step onto the increasingly difficult career ladder.
It seems the media is already influencing teenage career choices, with a third of Londoners and a third of Birmingham’s youngsters confessing to have been inspired by Lord Sugar and his apprentices to follow the Apprenticeship route.**
“In such a competitive and daunting job market, young adults need to make their CV stand out from the crowd,” says Director of Training at Lifetime, Nigel Wallace. “Gaining on the job training through a Government funded Apprenticeship programme offers an ideal opportunity for young people to achieve recognised industry qualifications and showcase their skills to employers.”
Lifetime have Government funded Apprenticeship programmes available in areas such as fitness, hospitality, adult and elderly care, child care and business and administration. “Although the current unemployment figures certainly look bleak, the future does not need to be so daunting for young adults." says Nigel Wallace. "There are increasing numbers of alternative options out there to help individuals gain skills needed to kick start their careers, such as Government funded Apprenticeship programmes. Not only can these programmes arm young learners with sector specific knowledge, but they will also gain interpersonal qualities and professional maturity.”
A survey* conducted by national training provider, Lifetime highlights that the media is heavily influencing youth career choices. Lifetime urges the remaining two thirds of young adults, or those struggling to find work, to follow in the footsteps of Lord Sugar’s apprentices to explore their options for ‘learning on the job.’ Not only can they gain an array of skills to make their CV shine, but also to make that all important step onto the increasingly difficult career ladder.
