Ex-Gladiator, Nikki Diamond, chooses Lifetime's Fastrack Fitness Instructor Award
Nikki Diamond, aka Gladiator, Scorpio, has signed up for Lifetime's Fastrack Fitness Instructor Award and will ultimately go on to study for the Diploma in Personal Training.
She comments: "Physical training has been part of my life for many years and my health and fitness knowledge is pretty good, but I've never had a formal qualification and felt that it would be a good idea to gain an 'official stamp of approval', particularly as I'm thinking about launching a personal training business in the future."
"I knew there were a number of different training companies offering fitness instructor training and I did most of my research on the web. From that I narrowed my search down to a few different companies and then I contacted them to gather more information. I was impressed with Lifetime's staffs' professionalism and their advice was really helpful. It was probably the course advisors' friendliness and reliability that helped me to make my decision to enrol on their course."
Nikki continues: "The other factor that was really important, was that I could study for the course by distance learning and I knew that this would really help me to fit in the studying around my hectic schedule."
Lifetime's Fastrack Award is the distance learning option for the level 2 Fitness Instructor Award. It has been designed to meet the needs of instructors who are experienced in the fitness industry, like Nikki, but whose qualifications are notREPsrecognised. The student prepares for the theory and practical examination using a study pack that includes a fully interactive CD Rom.
A former inter-school high-jump champion and gymnast, Nikki is an honours graduate in drama. Her modelling career saw her win the title of Miss Isle of Man, her birthplace, and this allowed her to go on and compete in the Miss World Contest. It was after this that she started to develop her physique by bodybuilding and this eventually led to her role in the hit 90s television programme, Gladiators.
A very competent and focussed Gladiator, Scorpio - as Nikki was dubbed due to her deadly sting - excelled at a wide variety of events including 'The Wall', 'Powerball', 'Suspension Bridge' and 'Hang Tough'. Contenders knew that she had superb upper body strength and great tactical awareness making her a very tough Gladiator to beat.
Nikki took part in Gladiators between 1992 and 94 before a persistent back injury forced her to give up contact sports. She then decided to move on and pursue a career elsewhere and has been extremely busy ever since - writing a book, acting and television presenting.
Nikki now works as the PA for Samantha Bond Management, a model agency representing some of the most exciting and well known names in the business. She is married to Mike and has one daughter, Emily.
