Free fitness training from Lifetime launches to help people get work
Government funded apprenticeships leading to industry recognised qualifications in fitness instruction and personal training are to become available from Lifetime this month.
This is thanks to a government initiative delivered by leading training provider Lifetime, awarded Centre of Excellence for Fitness for National Employers in September 2008 by the National Skills Academy for Sport and Active Leisure – an impartial organisation set up to improve skills training in the sector.
To date Lifetime has delivered over 500 fitness-based apprenticeships and has worked with many of the national operators to place individuals in fitness roles. As Centre of Excellence, Lifetime offers the perfect solution for individuals looking to enter or progress in the sector, helping them become work-ready and increase their opportunity of securing a job in the industry.
“The fitness sector offers fantastic opportunities for ambitious, outgoing people seeking a rewarding and fulfilling career,” says Nigel Wallace, Director of Training at Lifetime. “Our new training venues across the UK will mean people will have access to a new training resource right on their doorstep.”
Individuals who qualify for an apprenticeship could achieve a Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification in just four weeks. For those who already hold a Level 2 qualification, a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification will be offered which will result in being job-ready in two to five weeks depending on the programme option available to them. This includes support into their first fitness role where they will have the opportunity to start earning while they work at a health club or leisure centre to gain practical experience and complete their NVQ.
Nigel adds: “There are many benefits to working in fitness including a respectable income, flexible hours, pleasant working environment, variety and a great deal of job satisfaction. Professionals will build relationships and help clients achieve their goals.”
In addition to the opportunities presented by the government funded apprenticeships, Lifetime offers a range of distance learning courses for those wishing to study for a career in fitness whilst in their current employment. Individuals can study anywhere at anytime thanks to their innovative CD-Rom and interactive workbooks. A virtual trainer will be on hand to test their fitness knowledge and they will also receive high quality tutoring from one of their specialist tutors.
For those already working in the industry, a wide variety of courses are on offer to help them further their career - individuals will be able to broaden their skills, improve their chances of promotion and get involved in more activities in their workplace. Courses include Lifetime’s popular Continual Professional Development Programmes including Group Studio Cycling and Business Skills for the Personal Trainer.
Lifetime is the number one training provider in the fitness, leisure and hospitality sector and works in conjunction with some of the biggest brands in the fitness sector including LA Fitness and Everyone Active. Thanks to these strong links, Lifetime’s courses meet the needs of employers and they can access current job vacancies on behalf of graduates. This means individuals will be more employable once they complete their qualification.
In fact, upon completion of Lifetime’s various courses, 24 per cent of students started their own business, 42 per cent gained employment in the health and fitness industry, 19 per cent achieved the desired change in their career and 10 per cent gained promotion in the industry.
