We are recruiting for a Trainee Branch Assistant to help with the smooth running of our branch. This is a varied role in which you will learn a wide range of skills required to support our sales and operations functions.
You will learn the how the warehouse teams support the smooth running of the branch. First and foremost you will be given health and safety training and you will be expected to practice safe working at all times. This will enhance your awareness. You will receive, unload and sign for goods, learning the importance of checking orders carefully and why safe, careful and accurate storage is important. This will develop your ability to look consider the ‘bigger picture’. You will learn what actions to take when an order is incorrect, or when goods are damaged.
You will engage with customers both over the phone and face to face, take and prepare orders and provide a first line customer service. This will build on your customer service, telephone and rapport building skills and will develop your confidence. You will also gain good knowledge of construction products.
You will learn the importance of carrying out routine stock checks and you’ll learn how to carry out daily checks on mechanical handling equipment, such as forklifts, to ensure they are in a good and safe working order.
You will help keep the warehouse, yard and stock in a clean and tidy condition which will develop your awareness.
You will be working in a busy and varied environment which will enable you to develop your team working, flexibility and prioritisation skills.
You will receive health and safety training and on the job training for all aspects of your role.
Live sessions for Induction and Culture and Values are run weekly and all new starters are expected to attend. We also produce a weekly calendar of live webinars, which is open to all employees, and covers topics such as product training and mental health awareness training as well as general sales and customer service skills.
Through our training partner, Lifetime Training, you will be allocated a workplace coach and will receive 4 one-to-one training sessions which will cover the following skills:

• Becoming the perfect candidate
• Personal performance and development
• Building relationships
• Effective attitudes
• Teamwork
• CV development
• Career advice
• Interview skills
Once this training is complete, our team of professional recruiters will carry out a mock interview with you and provide you with detailed feedback on your performance.
You will also have access to a dedicated Kickstart portal on our online training system where a range of programmes will be available to support the above topics, plus a number of other skills such as:
• Timekeeping
• Collaboration
• Communication skills
• Customer service skills
• Financial planning
Requirements and Prospectus
Desired skills
You will demonstrate good attention to detail and the ability to prioritise your workload. You will be a good teamworker with a flexible approach.
Qualifications required
To be eligible for the Kickstart programme you will need to be:
• Referred by your Jobcentre Work Coach
• Aged 16-24
• Unemployed and have been in receipt of Universal Credit for 6 months or more
• Be available to work for 25+ hours per week
• Be able to undertake a 6-month training programme
Future prospects
The Kickstart Scheme as part of the Governments Plan for Jobs is to support people to develop new skills and to help them into sustained employment. With your new skills, you will be equipped to look for long-term employment.
