The secret to motivating your clients to exercise regularly and eat well?

Our clients are not always motivated to engage in exercise or make changes to their diet as much as is necessary to gain results. In order to achieve lasting change, we should address the cause of lifestyle and habits. One method for this is NLP Coaching (neuro linguistic programming).

NLP addresses our mindset, our ‘patterns’ of behaviour and our thought processes.

As a fitness professional, there are three major areas where using NLP with your clients can take your expertise and results to the next level:

1. Rapport and communication skills. Personal training is not just about exercise, it is about the relationship between the trainer and the client, and the more effective you are with your communication the more effective you will be.

2. Setting targets and removing barriers. Clients need to have the right mindset prior to personal training, and they have to be certain what they want, why they want it, set goals, eliminate excuses and faulty belief systems.

3. Identifying and managing root cause. You may have clients who also have various problems and health issues. For example, procrastination, smoking, habits (i.e. eating habits), addictions, depression, fears, phobias, your ability to help these people with your NLP skills will set you apart from other Personal Trainers.
