Oakman Inns wins twice at 2014 Publicans Awards
Oakmann Inns & Restaurants continued a recent tradition of Lifetime Training clients by collecting two industry awards at the prestigious Publican Awards last night.
At London’s Grosvenor House Lifetime Training’s newest client was recognised by the pub industry and was crowned ‘Best Community Pub Operator’ and ‘Best Pub Employer’ (2-50 sites) at the Awards event which is considered the ‘Oscars’ of the pub industry.
The Awards, recognise the achievements of top pub companies across 18 categories. The Best Community Pub Operator is awarded to a company whose offering is aimed at local rather than destination customer, while the Best Pub Employer (2-50 sites) is awarded to a company that provides an excellent working environment for employees including comprehensive training, staff motivation and a meaningful career path and development structure for employees.
Oakman Inns’ HR and Training Manager, Jill Scatchard, commented on the training and career development offered to staff, which ensures the company has a pipeline of talent that can maintain service standards as the operation expands saying: “Staff turnover is now down to 26% and we’ve gained a one-star accreditation under the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ scheme in its first year of entry. All our team members embark on Passport to Success, and we’ve introduced a new trainee assistant manager programme, a dedicated recruitment website and employee assistance programme.”
Oakman Inns’ CEO Peter Borg-Neal said: "The Publican Awards celebrate the achievements of leading pub companies and have always been a major benchmark for the industry. I’m very proud of our team - we are all over the moon to have won two awards, which not only reflect our ethos and personal philosophies but are also a reflection of the dedication and hard work the whole team across the group has put in over the last year.”
Julie Proctor, Head of Hospitality Apprenticeship Training at Lifetime Training, congratulated Oakmann Inns on their awards, saying; “Oakman Inns has made a commitment to put the pub at the heart of its local communities offering a destination for locals but also creating employment opportunities that are supported by extensive training and development programmes. We are delighted to be able to work in partnership with them to continue this award-winning tradition”.
