TGI Fridays celebrates its 100th apprentice completer

Award-winning American restaurant chain TGI Fridays is proudly celebrating its 100th apprentice completer, a scheme set up with the vision to kick-start careers within the hospitality industry and inspire its team members.

Christopher Grand is the 100th team member to complete his TGI Fridays apprenticeship at the Norwich restaurant. Before taking his Level 2 Kitchen Services qualification with Lifetime Training he was a cleaner at TGI Fridays.

Christopher commented:“It’s been a dream come true to finally get involved in the kitchen. It’s always intrigued me and I never thought I’d have the opportunity, but thanks to the scheme I’ve been given a chance and I’m taking full advantage of it. Right now, I’m concentrating on doing the very best job I can - the sky is the limit. I want to go as far as I can at Fridays and maybe even a General Manager one day.”

Jacqui McManus, Director of Culture and People Development, said:
“Our apprenticeship programme is in its second year and is proving extremely successful. It’s a great achievement to see the 100th completer pass through, all of them proving to be vital members of the Fridays team. With the extra support from our training academies, the scheme has helped not only to build the confidence of young people, but also give them a career goal to aspire to.”

Julie Proctor, Account Director – Hospitality, Lifetime Training, said:
“Achieving 100 completions is proof of the success of the TGI Fridays apprenticeship programme. We will continue to invest in this partnership, bringing in new, relevant qualifications and implementing new, improved ways of working.”

TGI Fridays has enjoyed a successful year so far after having just been named the ‘Best Big Company to Work For in the UK’ by Sunday Times Best Places to Work. The restaurant chain has also announced it will be creating 700 new careers in 2015, as it reaches a total of 70 restaurants in the UK by the end of the year.

The apprenticeship scheme is open to all its team members as well as new recruits. Those who complete the scheme will gain five Level Two programmes (equivalent of five GCSEs) covering all roles within the restaurant, as well as a Level Three Hospitality & Supervision Leadership Principles Course.
