Beauty Trends to Look out for in 2017

2016 is a distant memory and in its place, there's a raft of new beauty trends ready to take the fashion world by storm. Whilst 2016 wasn’t exactly a banner year for beauty (neck contouring can stay there), 2017 is shaping up to be a wonderful one.

But what should you be looking out for? Well, we’ve got our fingers on the pulse and we’re ready to give a reading – let’s go.

  • Super long hair – It’s back! Pixies be damned, because long hair is back for 2017. Prada’s spring show made fantastic use of the long ‘do, and we think it’s going to play a huge role in the 12 months ahead. So, let that luscious hair grow. Smooth, silky and glossy – there’s just nothing like the way hair long hair bounces.
  • Bold, chunky nails – This year, it’s all about augmenting your nail design with ingenious modifications, like jewels and gems. Nothing more required than our imagination and some nail glue? Sign us up!
  • Braid bling – Braided hair made a return in the second half of 2016, but this forthcoming year will see the major introduction of embellished braids, which combine French braids with bling. It’s as unique as you are.
  • Glitter – Festival favourite, the glitter explosion shows no sign of slowing down. Fun, funky and low cost, expect to see glitter absolutely everywhere you look this year. The bigger the flakes, the better.
  • Bursts of colour – Nude shades have dominated for years now, but colour is starting to come back in across runways the world over. Bold greens, warm yellows, creamy lavenders and shocking aquamarine colours all struck a chord with fashion writers, and we can see no reason why they won’t invade the high street this year either.
  • 90s nostalgia – Nostalgia comes in waves, coinciding with the kids of a certain era entering gainful employment, and so it’s time for the 90s to really hit their stride. Naivety with a dash of irony is the order of the day.
  • Matte eyes – All-over matte is huge on Instagram right now, but in full light it looks more than a little harsh. The smart and approachable angle is to focus on specific features. We recommend matte eyes; you’ll thank yourself when you’re outside.
  • Bleached locks – We’ve seen lighter and lighter shades coming in over recent years (especially pinks), but it’s 2017 when we see the bleached blonde look really come back into fashion. Wear it loose, wear it casual and rock that style – too smooth and you’ll find yourself looking very early 2000s estate-agent.
  • Fringes, back from the fringe – Okay, we all went a little crazy with the straight fringe thing a while back, but we learned from that lesson and we’ve moved on. Now, the fringe is back, and it’s ready to re-enter society. No longer severe, 2017s fringes are loose, fun and friendly.
  • Bare skin – Yes, for all the talk of new makeup trends, the biggest and perhaps most positive trend is the move towards completely nude skin. Letting your skin breathe can teach you a lot about the condition of your skin and help it get back to perfect health.
