Where will an apprenticeship take me?
There are so many opportunities out there when you have finished school or fancy a change of career. But where to go and what to do is a the biggest reason we follow the crowd, and not choose our own paths.
Apprenticeships - Now there’s a word that we hear but tend to ignore. Many of us associate it with... well, not very much.
Yet times have changed and you have the chance to get ahead of the game, because apprenticeships are the ‘go to’ career choice now for a lot of people, of all ages and backgrounds.
Why? Because you don’t pay to do an apprenticeship, you earn while you learn (so you earn a wage rather than being stuck with a student loan for the rest of your life), you work alongside people already in the industry who can teach you the tricks of the trade and you don't need any previous qualifications or experience.
However, the best bit about apprenticeships in our eyes is that an apprenticeship can also equate to a degree!
That’s right! You can still get the equivalent to a degree qualification if you do an apprenticeship. It’s called a Higher Apprenticeship!
Higher Apprenticeships consist of manager level roles and many people have worked their way through apprenticeships in their chosen industry to start it. These people have become the specialists in their fields, they’ve learnt from people in the know, whilst working alongside them.
Here’s the different levels of apprenticeships you can do:
|Name||Level||Equivalent educational level|
|Higher||4, 5, 6 and 7||Foundation degree and above|
|Degree||6 and 7||Bachelor's or Master's degree|
You can apply if:
- You are 16 or over
- Live in England
- Are not in full-time education
I think it's safe to say, an apprenticeship can take you anywhere in your career, including to degree level!
