Hospitality apprenticeship success story: Jan Tucker
Jan had never worked in hospitality before starting at the Baldwins, and was extremely shy with little knowledge of food and drinks. She had rarely visited pubs, but wanted to learn and develop so when her son leaves school she can consider working full time with the knowledge and the skills to work her way up.
Determined to upskill to Level 2 for her Functional Skills, Jan passed all her tests first time, and put herself out of her comfort zone to complete her speaking and listening (this gave her nightmares, but she never gave up.)
Now one of the most experienced members of staff, who cares about her role, Jan enjoys talking to customers and supporting the team.
The Team Leading qualification, which Jan has recently started, will challenge her. It will help her have an understanding of leadership in the workplace, and will provide her with further confidence and self-belief, with the aim of leading to promotion.
