2018 in gel manicure trends
The spring/summer catwalks were packed with fresh nail trends, and we’ve picked out our favourite 15 looks for you to get your hands on (or… get on your hands?) this year. Which will you try first?
Walk the line
Stripes and single lines make a statement this season – often with one accent nail featuring patterns, and the rest left a low-key, pale shade of pink.
Trace a line of dark polish along the cuticle edge, with a nude base wash over the nail. Add a glossy layer on top for added shine and staying power.
Beautiful floral patterns were painted on nails of this season’s models. Luckily they were abstract, so they’re easy to recreate at home with a few artful swishes of a paintbrush.
The dark side
With the shimmer trend shining bright, add a little black polish to temper the glitter.
Ever fancied trying glow-in-the-dark nails? Now you can! If you’re going to go all-in with your digits, why not also add stick-on hardware, like rhinestones and tiny plastic flowers?
Three’s a party
Feeling indecisive? Follow this fun trend by alternating between three of your favourite colours from nail to nail. Stick to varying shades of the same colour, or mix things up for a funkier finish.
Nice and neutral
Gloss finishes coat grey, taupe and mushroom shades. Subtle, gentle and oh-so-chic.
For glamorously frozen fingertips, follow the metallic silver trend – add tiny stick-on crystals to complete the look.
A little extra
Why stop at your nails? This season’s catwalks saw models with bright, zesty nails, as well as the tips of their fingers dipped in glitter. If you fancy having the Midas touch for a day, this could be the look for you.
Old to new
Believe it or not, grown-out manicures are now a trend. Simply paint your nails in your colour of choice, leaving a line of space at the cuticle. Or… simply paint your nails normally in chip-resistant polish, and leave them to grow out!
Want to keep it simple?
Luckily, we saw plenty of an old faithful on the catwalk: long, red glossy nails. We hope these beauties never go out of style…
