Wondering if now's the time to switch to a career in beauty? We've lined up four great perks of becoming a beauty therapist, so you can see if it's the right move for you...

 1: It's sociable
At its heart, a career as a beauty therapist is all about helping people to feel good. Beauty treatments are an effective way to help boost self-confidence, purely because it feels great to present our best selves to the world.  Whether you're offering your clients perfectly groomed brows that help them feel fabulous when they look in the mirror each morning, or help them feel more confident about their hands by giving them a perfect manicure, you're adding to your clients' happiness in an everyday but important way. Helping a client to feel good about their looks gives them the space to relax and focus on enjoying their life, rather than getting hung up on their appearance.  If you enjoy chatting and connecting with people, and are drawn to the idea of boosting people's self-esteem on a regular basis, this could be an ideal career for you.

2: It's up to you
There's a lot of choice involved in a beauty career - will you work for a salon you admire, or will you go it alone and build your own business? If you do decide to become self-employed, what hours will you decide to work? There are benefits to both becoming a salon's member of staff or working for yourself.  If you enjoy being part of a team, and value the security that comes with being employed by a business, choosing a role at an existing salon, spa or health club could work well for you. However, if you're more interested in shaping a career to fit around other personal commitments - or enjoy the idea of being in complete control of your time - self-employment could be best.

3: It's always varied
If you'd love a career that's full of variety, beauty therapy could be the choice for you. Working at a salon - or visiting clients for treatments in their own homes - brings different challenges and rewards on a daily basis. One session could see you perfecting bespoke nail art, while the next could involve helping a bride with makeup for her big day.

4: It's a growing industry
As the beauty industry continues to boom, there are an increasing number of potential clients out there looking for great beauty therapists. Even as people cut back on other expenditures, they seem to remain happy to spend money on the everyday treats that make them feel good - such as manicures, waxes and massages.  Beyond working in a salon or spa, there are also plenty of career opportunities with TV and movie companies looking to hire skilled therapists and makeup artists to help bring their productions to life.
