Course details

The course has been designed to be a mixture of practical and online learning which includes 36 practical classroom days.

How long will the course take

You’ll start with a one-day induction at the Academy. Two weeks later, the course commences. You’ll attend two days per week for a total of 18 weeks, unless you choose to study at the weekends to help your learning fit around your busy lifestyle. In this case you’ll attend every other week for a total of 36 weeks. 

Online learning tools

You will be required to complete some online learning through our MyLifetime e-learning platform. This platform provides instant access to a range of supporting learner materials such as PowerPoint slides, explorative documents, videos, webinars and other dynamic learning resources. 

How you'll learn

Hands-on practical sessions are held in groups. These are designed to help you develop your practical skills and complete your ongoing formative assessments, as well as engage with other learners and gain feedback on your work.

You’ll also take part in a number of salon experience days, where you’ll experience day-to-day life working in the beauty industry to help prepare you for employment.

Level 3 Beauty Therapy Diploma

Course contents Course type

Facial Skincare

  • Care of the skin – to include cleansing, exfoliation, facial massage and the use of face masks

Manicure and Pedicure Treatments

  • Care of the hands and feet - to include nail care, exfoliation, massage and nail painting

Eyebrow and Eyelash Treatments

  • Care of the eyebrows and eyelashes - to include shaping and tinting


  • Removal of hair using hot and cool wax methods

Apply Individual Permanent Lashes - free additional unit

  • Application of individual permanent lashes – to include carrying out tests and using products, tools and equipment to suit the treatment needs of the client

Body Massage

  • Massage techniques – to include the classic massage movements, use of different massage mediums, mechanical massage, pre-heat treatments and adapting the massage to suit the clients’ specific treatment needs

Stone Therapy Massage

  • Learn how to provide Stone Therapy Massage treatments using both hot and cold stones

Indian Head Massage

  • Learn how to provide traditional Indian Head Massage, which focuses on the head, neck, face and shoulders

Massage using Pre Blended Aromatherapy Oils

  • Understand how to perform massage therapies using pre-blended aromatherapy oils, which are fragrant essential oils for specific conditions


  • Understand this key cosmetic treatment in which the face is sprayed with exfoliant crystals to remove dead skin

Self Tanning

  • Learn how to perfect spray tanning treatments and the use of tanning creams and lotions

  • Practical session on how to spray tan - free additional unit

Intimate Waxing for Female Clients - free additional unit

  • Learn effective and specific waxing techniques designed for intimate waxing styles on female clients

Gel Polish Manicure - free additional unit

  • Understand how to deliver a light cured, gel polish manicure using this popular nail technique

  • Applying Gel polish and understanding the application*

*You will be required to purchase the gel nails kit for an additional £199.

Client Care and Communication

  • Learn effective communication styles specifically suited to the beauty industry and the types of client considerations which form part of good client care and building positive client relationships

Working in Beauty Related Industries

  • Learn the key characteristics of the beauty industry and all its related industries

Salon Reception Duties

  • Salon reception duties including how to make the right first impression, professionalism, handling enquiries and the importance of attention to detail

Health and Safety Practices

  • Health, safety and hygiene – contextualised to the types of beauty environments you will be working in so you can be confident of providing and supporting safe working practices for staff and clients
