How much are personal training courses?

We often get asked how much it costs to do a personal training course, and with so many options available it’s not always that simple an answer!

We at Lifetime Training are here to shed some light on this topic and support you to make the right decision that works for you.

The cost of personal training courses can vary based on the provider, the course and the chosen delivery method. You can find courses for as little as £900 and others costing much more, it is down to you to find the right option for your own journey.

Funding for personal training courses can be a decisive factor when choosing your course and provider, however you shouldn’t let the cost be the only consideration. Instead, pay more attention to finding a provider that can support you through the journey and a course that is accredited by the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).

Why it’s important to get a personal training certification

A personal training certification is a must have to work in the industry and allows you to be flexible to who you work with, as well as create opportunities for personal development and business ownership.

The certification is a stamp of approval and a way to immediately build trust with prospective customers/employers and demonstrate your knowledge and expertise around exercise best practice.

This can give you a valuable kickstart into the world of personal training and will allow you to compete on an even playing field with other professionals.

As well as supporting employability, a personal training qualification can improve confidence and allow you to deliver a high-quality service to clients. Feeling well-equipped to give advice and drive your own fitness strategy with each client will impact the experience they get and how they perceive you as a trainer or specialist.

Confidence, applicability and personability are all key skills to develop return business and these skills can be sharpened during the training process. This highlights the need for you to select the right provider; one that can offer the support, learning environment and quality of training that you need to grow.

What to look for when choosing a personal training certification

Be sure to work with providers whose courses are accredited by REPs or CIMSPA, well-respected and recognised authorities in the fitness industry. These public registers and industry bodies are designed to ensure customers and businesses feel confident and have assurance that they are working with qualified and trained fitness professionals.

When working on a contract/freelance basis or working with a brand, insurance and trust are vital in securing regular work. Ensuring that your qualification is REPs certified and that you are part of this network is a great way of helping to build trust and confidence that you can do your job effectively and safely.

We do advise to play close attention to training providers that seem to offer “fast track” solutions to getting qualified and employment ready in the fitness world. Being responsible for someone’s personal body and fitness shouldn’t be taken lightly and can be a dangerous environment if you are not well equipped to handle certain situations.

Everyone is unique and a customer may be returning from a serious injury, meaning you will need to tailor your solutions on the fly to not impact the injury.

A provider who claims you can learn everything you need to know in a matter of weeks is like giving someone a full driving license after taking their theory test – could prove dangerous and the knowledge and skills to apply simply won’t be there.
