Sport at The Heart
As a Level 3 Community Sports & Health Officer Apprentice, you will support the delivery of sports and health programmes within the community under the guidance of experienced professionals. Responsibilities include assisting in the planning, coordination, and implementation of sports activities and health promotion initiatives. You will engage with community members, facilitate workshops, and provide support to participants to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn project management skills, develop partnerships with local organisations, and contribute to the evaluation and improvement of programmes. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community sports and health while working towards a recognised qualification.

The Level 3 Community Sports & Health Officer Apprentice will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of sports and health programmes within the community. Under the mentorship of experienced professionals, the apprentice will contribute to the planning, coordination, and implementation of initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing, and healthy lifestyles among community members.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in Program Planning: Collaborate with senior staff to assist in the development of sports and health programmes tailored to the needs of the community, considering factors such as demographics, health priorities, and available resources.

Program Implementation: Support the delivery of sports activities, fitness classes, health workshops, and other initiatives designed to engage community members and promote overall wellbeing.

Community Engagement: Actively engage with community members to promote participation in programmes, gather feedback, and address concerns or barriers to participation. Build positive relationships with participants, volunteers, and stakeholders to foster a sense of community and belonging.

Administrative Support: Provide administrative support as needed, including maintaining participant records, monitoring programme attendance, and assisting with the procurement of resources and equipment.

Learning and Development: Take advantage of learning opportunities provided through the apprenticeship programme to develop knowledge and skills in areas such as project management, health promotion strategies, and community development principles.

Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations during programme delivery, including the implementation of risk assessments, emergency procedures, and safeguarding protocols.

Evaluation and Reporting: Assist in the evaluation of programme effectiveness by collecting and analysing data, soliciting participant feedback, and preparing reports for senior management and stakeholders.

At Sport at Heart you will be working towards your L3 Community Sport and Health Officer Apprenticeship over the course of 12-18 Months.

Desired Skills

Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences and build rapport with community members. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines. Basic IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). An understanding of health and safety principles and a commitment to promoting a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.

Personal qualities

You must be enthusiastic about wanting to work within the sport and physical activity sector and be committed to inspiring others to be more physically active.

No prior coaching experience is required, but a willingness to learn, work hard and challenge yourself is essential.
