A vital role supporting visitors of all ages who come to Appletree Garden for its wonderful vibrant green space and activities. A great opportunity for a young person looking to develop a role in community support where the natural environment and its positive influence on wellbeing is key. Working as part of a team of workers and volunteers the job holder will provide forms of gentle exercise for those visitors able to join in. Appletree has regular events and activities and assisting with these will bring variety to this role, which will help continue the development of this amazing garden.

Location: Appletree Garden, Agbrigg, Wakefield

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 30 hours per week

About Appletree Garden:
Appletree Garden is a vibrant green space that serves as a sanctuary for visitors of all ages, offering a variety of activities and events aimed at promoting wellbeing through connection with nature. As part of our commitment to community support and environmental stewardship, we are seeking a passionate and energetic individual to join our team as a Community Activator Coach.

Key Responsibilities:

Visitor Engagement: Provide support to visitors, facilitating their participation in gentle exercise and other garden activities.

Event Assistance: Assist the Garden team in the planning and execution of regular events and activities, adding variety and enrichment to the community's experience.

Team Collaboration: Work closely with a dedicated team of workers and volunteers to enhance the garden's offerings and maintain its welcoming atmosphere.

Training and Development: Participate in a comprehensive apprenticeship program through Lifetime Training, gaining valuable skills and qualifications as part of the Coach Core family. This includes access to additional training and opportunities to engage in local and regional sporting events.

Ideal Candidate:

No Previous Experience Required: While no prior coaching experience is necessary, a strong willingness to learn and embrace new challenges is crucial.

Personal Qualities: Reliable, enthusiastic, energetic, committed, and an effective communicator.

Passion for Physical Activity: A genuine interest in promoting physical activity and understanding the diverse needs of community members.

Love for the Outdoors: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, reflecting a deep appreciation for nature and green spaces.

Community-Focused: Motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact on the local community and improve individual wellbeing.

At Spectrum People you will work towards your L2 Community Activator Coach Apprenticeship Qualification over the course of 12-18 Months.

Desired Skills

--- This is an apprenticeship programme, designed to help you gain skills and experience ‘on the job.’ We aren’t looking for any previous coaching qualifications or experience but certain personal qualities and characteristics are a must. Details are below. Successful applicants will be assisting and delivering physical activity sessions in the community. Your sessions may be the highlight of their week- so you will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, energetic, committed and a good communicator.

Personal qualities

You must be enthusiastic about wanting to work within the sport and physical activity sector and be committed to inspiring others to be more physically active, but also understanding of how and when an individual wants to engage. You should also have a love of outdoor space; Appletree Garden opens all year round, whatever the weather!

No prior coaching experience is required, but a willingness to learn, work hard and challenge yourself is essential.

Qualifications required


Missed out on getting your Maths and English GCSE’s? Don’t worry- you can still apply but you will need to complete Functional Skills Level 2 in both before you finish the apprenticeship. Our Learning Coaches can support you with this so don’t let this put you off!
