12 Lifetime employers pledge their support for Apprenticeships

A group of 12 apprenticeship employers have embraced National Apprenticeship Week 2017 and demonstrated their commitment through a series of apprenticeship pledges.

The employer pledges have been shared as part of a promotional drive by Lifetime Training to celebrate all that apprenticeships offer to businesses, and their employees, in England.

Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills, Robert Halfon, said:

“National Apprenticeship Week is the highlight of the apprenticeships year – it showcases the best of the best and celebrates the positive impact apprenticeships and traineeships have on learners and employers.

“There really has never been a better time to be an apprentice. I congratulate Lifetime Training for getting involved, giving people a chance to climb up the career ladder and get on in the world of work.”

Alex Khan, CEO at Lifetime Training, commented:

“With employers now firmly in the apprenticeship driving seat, following apprenticeship reform, it makes sense for employers to join the government in demonstrating their commitment to apprenticeships and upskilling the workforce of the future.”

Apprenticeship pledges range from simply demonstrating support for apprenticeship training to committing to volume sign-ups.

One of the largest community-based social care providers in the UK, City and County Healthcare Group, has been running apprenticeships with Lifetime for almost four years. They pledged: “We pledge to deliver 500 apprentices in care and leadership.”

Max Wurr, Director of Policy and Communications, City & County Healthcare Group explained:

“We feel it’s important to offer our employees, who provide in-home care across the country, with opportunities to develop their skills and confidence through apprenticeships. We are proud to support National Apprenticeship Week 2017 as it is a great time to celebrate the achievements of not only our apprentices, but apprentices everywhere.”

Hospitality giant, Hilton, has been running apprenticeships since 2008 (LivingWell brand):

“Hilton is committed to offering 300 apprenticeships in 2017.”

“The Hilton Apprenticeship Programme provides an entry level education into the exciting world of Hospitality and an attractive route into employment with one of the world’s leading companies of its kind." - Ben Bengougam, Vice President, Human Resources, EMEA Hilton

Advance has been working together with Lifetime since 2016 and agreed to: “Support our learners to be the best they can be.” Advance has taken this a step further and shared a short film on YouTube demonstrating just how committed they are to apprentices and their apprenticeship programme.

1Life has been running apprenticeships since 2014 and pledged: “We are 100% committed to supporting our apprentices.”  Neil King, Managing Director for 1Life, commented:“1Life is committed to the training & development of its colleagues and to improving standards and customer experiences within the industry. To help deliver this we are working in partnership with Lifetime Training to employ apprentices across all of our sites. We recognise that apprenticeships have a big part to play in helping us to set up career pathways and introduce new team members to our organisation.

“Recruiting apprentices gives us the opportunity to succeed in the both of these above tasks. We are able to tailor the apprenticeship to our needs and train them in the 1LifeWay as well as offer a competitive wage for people aged 16-23 who are ‘in learning’.”

Everyone Active has been running apprenticeships with Lifetime Training for over 10 years. Harvey Gosling, Group Training Manager at Everyone Active said:

“Here at Everyone Active we wholeheartedly believe that apprenticeships deliver for our team. We have seen first-hand how apprenticeships have developed our people and delivered for the organisation.”

In addition to the pledges, employers backed Lifetime’s National Apprenticeship Week #careergoals campaign by hosting specially designed web banners on their websites and social media pages. A special thanks goes to 1Life, Everyone Active, Places 4 People Leisure, Cineworld, PaddyPower, Redrow Homes, Ladbrokes, Advance, HC-One, City and County, NursePlus, Dimensions, Eden Futures, Hartford Care, Roadchef, Punch, Marston’s, Greene King, and Thwaites for their support throughout the week.

In addition to these pledges, Lifetime employer partners got involved and celebrated their apprentices across the country throughout the week. It all started with a Mitchell’s & Butlers apprentice interview on BBC Radio Sheffield. Marston’s apprentices challenged their local MP’s hospitality skills by taking part in an Apprenticeship Showcase at the House of Commons on 7th March. Nursery chain Kiddi Caru also got involved by sharing an apprentice case study on twitter, whereas Greene King ran an apprentice recruitment event.
